High School Jewish Life
Carmel School is unique in that we cater for a wide variety of students from the full spectrum of Jewish learning and observance. Our Jewish education programme is not simply confined to the classroom, but is evident in the very essence of everything we do.
The secondary Jewish Studies educational programme not only includes subjects such as Hebrew, Jewish History, Yahadut and Pirkei Avot. Students are able to choose from a range of options within the programme as they progress through the High School, structuring a programme to best suit their individual interests and levels of learning and observance. Exciting and less formal options include Conversational Hebrew and Jewish Cooking and are very popular.
The Jewish Studies curriculum is supplemented by an array of co-curricular activities. Year 8 students, for example, enjoy four full-day themed Jewish Studies seminars which take them out of the classroom and stimulate their thirst for knowledge in a less formal way.
As one of the premier Jewish institutions in WA we are privileged enjoy number of eminent visiting guest speakers each year.
Students have the option of attending overseas programmes, including a four-month Netivot study programme in Israel in Year 10 and the March of the Living in Year 11.
Seminars, camps, holiday celebrations, Shabbatonim and tochniot with community youth leaders all combine with more formal studies to enrich the Jewish atmosphere at the School.
