Primary School: Years 2 - 7

Children in Carmel Primary School are encouraged and supported to achieve their personal best. The focus is on the development of the whole person and the vibrant and meaningful educational programme ensures a balance of the spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional and social aspects in the lives of the students.

The Primary School curriculum reflects the National Goals of Schooling in Australia, incorporating the eight key learning areas of the Curriculum Framework - namely English, Mathematics, Science, Society & Environment, Physical & Health Education, the Arts, Enterprise & Technology and LOTE (languages other than English).

The use of computers and other technology is integrated within each subject area. Each classroom is equipped with audiovisual equipment as well as a network of computers with internet access. Many of our classrooms are equipped with electronic whiteboards and the Primary School also has a state-of-the-art computing centre.

Visual and Performing Arts are a highlight of Primary School life. All classes enjoy a wide range of Art activities with their fabulous work often on display. Performing and public speaking are an integral part of Carmel Primary School life with assemblies, concerts, dramatic performances, chagim, debating, public speaking competitions and special occasions all providing opportunities for our students to enhance their skills in these areas.

There is close integration between Jewish and secular education, bringing the flavour of Judaism through much of the secular curriculum and further enhancing the children’s Jewish identity.

Primary and High School are linked where possible through whole school programmes. Senior Primary students also attend High School functions when appropriate, with this link as well as more formal High School orientation and induction for Year 7 students helping to ensure a smooth transition to High School.
