On Monday 12 August, Carmel Primary hosted the "Stirling Zone" interschool chess tournament. Whitford Catholic Primary School participated in the event together with the Carmel Primary and High School teams. It was a great experience for some of our beginner players and a tremendous success for our experienced chess team players, who won all the first places. Adam S and Daniel L won individual medals for coming first with a perfect score of seven wins out of seven games, Aaron L won a medal for coming second with 6.5 points and Raphael R and Kovi L won medals for coming third with 5.5 points each. They all won gold medals for being part of the Carmel Primary School's team who came first in this tournament, qualifying for the WA State finals. Maya S, who was the best female player in the Carmel team and third-best female player in the tournament, won a medal for her achievements. Rafael L and Naftali R, who represented the High School, also won medals for their performance. Results of this tournament can be accessed here.

The next chess event is the IPSHA interschool tournament, taking place on August 20, followed by two State finals in September. We wish our chess team players best of luck in the future!
