A jam-packed assembly was enjoyed by students and special guests on Friday 6 September in the High School. The assembly opened with a recognition of the invaluable contribution made to Carmel by Dr Harry and Mrs Sylvia Hoffman. Morah Shula began by sharing her heartfelt friendship and the extraordinary commitment of Dr and Mrs Hoffman and their family to our school. The audience watched a short movie made by Year 12 students Michaela K, Samuel M and Avi M. The movie highlighted the duty and responsibility the Hoffmans felt towards the school as the centre of the Jewish community.
Following some words of thanks from Dr Hoffman, the audience was delighted by the stories of visiting author John Doust. Mr Doust was one of the three authors at school on Friday at the culmination of Reading Week. He spoke of his love of history and stories. He shared many of his life experiences, including spending some time in Israel. His message of turning failure and setback into experience and successful writing careers was very inspirational.
On a separate note, a heartfelt mazel tov on behalf of Carmel to Dr Hoffman AM for his official investiture at Government House this week under ‘Medal of the Order in the General Division’ for significant service to the community through charitable organisations. We are so grateful to you for all that you mean to us!
