The current restrictions have limited the access to competitions for our fabulous chess players. Where there is a will there is a way, however, and the Chess Team competed in their first online tournament on Wednesday 3 June. The set up was a little frantic but, once everyone gained access, focus and concentration pervaded the room and the students engaged in two and half hours of online competition with high school and primary school students from all over Australia. Demonstrating truly impressive team work, our Carmel players came second overall - and have now qualified for the State Interschools final - pipped at the post by Perth Modern High School. Individual mention must go to Aaron L, who came eighth out of 48 players with the second highest countback (ie facing stronger opponents), Chana K, who was the fourth best player of our team in this tournament, and Daniel L, who had the hardest tournament of all the tournament players with the highest countback.

We would like to thank Shai Levin for his ongoing commitment to chess at our school and for working closely with Mrs Bolton to make this event possible.
