Harris Post - Term 4, Week 7
Our Year 11 Shorashim travellers returned late on Tuesday evening last week, tired and happy to be home after the fabulous trip Mr Lawrence had organised for them. I understand Tasmania was beautiful and the conference with four other schools’ Jewish students in Sydney was a great learning experience. So much of what we do successfully hinges on connectedness and being able to spend quality time with other students was a fantastic opportunity. I was very proud to hear that wherever the Carmel students went, they were universally described as well-mannered and polite. Feedback from bus drivers, teachers and other adults who encountered the group apparently marvelled at how lucky we are to have such considerate, kind, well-mannered students at Carmel.
An AISWA visitor this week facilitated an after-school workshop for those in the Teacher Leadership Program. Staff who attended were guided through different scenarios which they might encounter in school, focusing on issues which need to be in the forefront of school leaders’ minds as they navigate the often complex maze of legislation that covers our work. I suspect they were surprised to discover the sheer number of legal issues that arise in schools and just how many policies and procedures must be considered. I know that when someone says “Why can’t we just …..”, my heart normally sinks because there is bound to be some reason why we can’t just do whatever it is, despite it seeming perfectly reasonable and logical.
The High School is fairly quiet today as I write this post, with various year groups off campus, but the Primary School is a hive of activity. The cardboard challenge was a fabulous showcase of Year 5 creativity and I thoroughly enjoyed playing all the cardboard arcade games on offer. The Primary School end of year concert on Friday was another Carmel marvel. My gratitude and admiration go to all those who have worked so hard to create this spectacle. Thank you.
