Harris Post - Term 3, Week 1

A warm welcome back to all Carmel families. I hope that you enjoyed a good break away from school and that the students are refreshed and ready for Term 3.
Although some of us have had a lovely time without work, the campus has been buzzing with activity. Our maintenance staff in particular must be exhausted – as I enjoyed a tour around this morning, it was clear that they have worked tirelessly to get as many projects finished as possible in the timeframe available. Parent feedback in last year’s survey was clear that we need to invest in the fabric of our school and this is in evidence all over the place. You will see new flooring, new carpets and new signage, but you may not notice significant other improvements including a remotely accessible security alarm system, new lighting and desperately needed roof repairs!
Another request on the parent survey which has been talked about for some time was for OSHC – an out of school hours care service. TheirCare has come on board and set up the playgroup room next to reception. We are very much looking forward to watching what they bring to the children who will benefit from their care after school. To all those playgroup people out there, fear not! Playgroup continues on a Wednesday morning and will only benefit from the revamped space and resources.
Another activity which has given me great pleasure this week has been interviewing some of our youngest children applying for Kindy for next year and remembering the delight of chatting to bright sparkly little people keen to share all sorts of information. Whether it be a conversation about their hair accessories, their favourite toy car or a quiet comment, honestly expressed (“I’m ready to go home now”!), it’s wonderful to meet the newest Carmel kids and imagine the fabulousness of the Kindy that awaits them next year.
The start of a new term is always a joy, reuniting with staff, welcoming back the students and planning for the future. Enjoy the last weekend and we look forward to seeing the students’ return on Tuesday.
Shabbat shalom.
