Harris Post - Term 2, Week 6

This week saw the Carmel High School Expo for parents and students in Years 4, 5 and 6. Watching our brilliant teachers mingle with mums and dads and children reflected the sort of place that Carmel is – a community school with staff who care and learners keen to learn. Food technology students had baked a range of delicious biscuits (which went down very well judging by the speed at which they were eaten!)
Teachers had clearly spent time planning fabulous activities for the students, including spelling bees, maths puzzles, candle-making, voting in an election, braiding challah and trialling music technology. Parents were able to chat to teachers about their hopes and concerns for high school and there was a lively buzz in the Kadima building.
One of the things I noticed with pleasure was the way in which the older students who had volunteered to come along to help, interacted with the primary school children. They were friendly, kind and keen to talk to them about the activities on offer. As is often the case, the older students are far more helpful and patient with younger children than might be expected, and it’s lovely to watch them taking on a teaching role.
The connections built at these events are long-lasting and invaluable and we are so grateful both to the teachers who put so much effort into planning the event and to the parents who attended to find out more about just what is on offer at Carmel High School.
